Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new legal challenges for Indonesia’s copyright system, particularly regarding authorship and ownership of AI-generated works. Law No. 28 of 2014 on Copyright remains centered on the concept of human authorship, leaving a regulatory gap for works autonomously produced by AI. This research employs a normative juridical method to analyze the legal vacuum and propose a reform framework. The study finds that Indonesia urgently needs to redefine the concept of authorship, establish a sui generis protection model for AI-generated creations, and implement clear rules on accountability and transparency to balance the protection of human creators’ rights with technological innovation.
